Questions and Answers ~

I owe answers to questions from two bloggers (maybe more, please let me know if I haven't seen a set) This is probably going to be a long post. But I will add some pictures, maybe that will help!

First set is from:

MAD DRESS GAME

1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because at the time, I couldn't find anyone who was blogging about the places I like to shop. I wanted to talk about Talbots and the Loft etc with others who shopped there. I thought maybe someone else would be interested in reading about it. Plus I thought it would be fun to share the deals I find, and it has been.

2. What's your favorite kind of ice cream?
Breyer's Lactose Free Vanilla

3. Favorite book? Why?
Wicked. I think its funny, sad, irreverent, sexy, clever....everything needed for a fun read that is easy to reread. Its not the most intellectual book I have read, but that wasn't the question now was it?

4. What do you like most about your day job?
Everything :-) Being able to sit quietly in my workspace and complete tasks.

5. What's the most amazing place you've ever visited?
St. Thomas, or Santa Fe, NM. Its a tough call.

6. Heels or flats?
Hummm...Heels in summer, flats in winter. :-)

7. What do you always carry with you?
Blackberry and an Umbrella

8. What's one beauty product you can't live without?
Korres Wild Rose Foundation in WRF5

The Second Set is from:

1.Describe your dream vacation.
I love beaches and food and shopping. Voila! Back to St. Thomas it is!

2.Do you collect anything?
**whispers.....Cardigans**

3. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
On my first day at a new job, I made a bag of microwave popcorn. The popcorn caught on fire, and set off the security system. A fire extinguisher was needed, but the office manager didn't know the pin code for the security system, so the fire truck came. Since it was an outpatient medical facility, the entire place had to evacuate. Sigh. All the while people were asking what happened, and someone would point to me "the new girl burned some popcorn". It was awesome.

4.Who is your idol/role model? Why?
I am never really sure how to answer this question. I think I learn from and am shaped by all the strong women I have in my past and present. And I hope people read this answer and don't think Xena, Warrior princess is my idol. No matter how smashing Lucy Lawless looks in leather.

5.What is your favorite book?
(see #3 from 1st set of questions)

6. If you could take an all-expenses-paid trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
That's a tough question. I wold probably pick one of the more expensive islands to go to - like St. Barts or Anguilla and stay at a top-notch spa resort. My other option would be Egypt. I really want to see the pyramids, etc. Turkey has always been somewhere I wanted to see as well.. But I don't know if I could give up beach luxury for intellectual travel. ;-)

7. What is one thing that can always make you smile?
My silly, sweet daughter. And when she is being a "typical" teenager and I need something else to smile about, then a good deal works wonders LOL!

8. What is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?
Definitely, the hardest thing I ever did was be a single mom for 5 years. The first year was the hardest.

What about you guys? Care to answer any of these? In the comments, or your own blog with a link back?

Oooh pretty...

Just got my new Talbot's catalog, and I love it. I think I can understand the final sale policy. There are soooo many new items, I am pretty sure, they needed the warehouse space. :-)

Did you guys get the new catalog? What did you think? I went through a whole bunch of Lucky stickers :-) For the record, if you do not get the catalog, I would recommend looking at it online or picking one up in store. I have a hard time shopping the stores and the internet sometimes if I haven't seen the fantastic styling in the catalog.

P.S. Nicole let us know that the Holiday Look Book has arrived as well!

$50 Certificate for the Gap costs $25 at Groupon - Today Only!

Hey all,

I just got an email from my local GAP store manager, today's coupon from groupon.com is a $50 in-store spend for $25.00. The way it works is you pay $25 online now, and get a $50.00 in-store merchandise certificate. This coupon must be purchased today, but can be redeemed through November 19, 2010. It is good at Gap, Gap Kids, Baby Gap, etc and on sale items. Its not good at Outlet stores, online or Old Navy, BR.

Anyways, great deal and I hope you grab one!!

If you are not familiar with Groupon, its a coupon site that sends out one deal a day, usually for local places (you choose your nearest city). You must buy the coupon that day, but there is usually plenty of time to redeem it. A certain number of people must also buy the coupon for the deal to go through. Though, I have never seen it not go in my area.

Today's Outfit! How that for a title?

Here is today's outfit! Sorry we are a little blurry, we had our guest photographer tonight! :-)

How is everyone's week going? Have you started looking at Fall goodies yet? I got a HUGE Instyle magazine in the mail today...its got 600 pages!!

Sleeveless blouse -Loft $24
Skirt - Chadwicks $15
Sweater - Talbot's Outlet $10

As always thanks for reading!!

Inspiration: Mae West

Today is Mae West's birthday, so I thought I would put up some of these pictures of her. Mae West was an actress and the quintessential blonde bombshell of the 30s. She got her start in Vaudeville, but began writing and performing in plays early in her career. Her first play,"Sex" got her thrown in jail for 10 days due to indecency. She worked the Broadway / live theater circuit for several years before getting a motion picture contract.

Her movie career as bombshell began the year she turned 38. She wrote / rewrote most of her characters in the movies she made, and I consider her to be queen of the one-liner. Regardless of whether she said them in person, or in a movie, they were her own words. I have listed some of my faves at the end of the post.

The above dress / photo is what I wanted my wedding dress to look like. Did I get close enough? :-)

Above is a photo of her trial in 1927, for her play "Sex". She went on to rattle the cages of morality groups all over New York with her plays that dealt with prostitution, sex and homosexuality. Her movies were also sexy, but that darn Production Code went into effect in 1934, and she was heavily edited. And on another note, I have a hat just like that. I should wear it more often.

Another fabulous outfit. With a hat.

Here are some of those one-liners....

"A hard man is good to find."

"I didn't discover curves, only uncovered them."

"I generally avoid temptation, unless I can't resist it."

"I speak two languages, body and English."

"I'll try anything once, twice if I like it, three times to make sure."

"Marriage is a great institution, but I'm not ready for an institution."

"Personally, I like two types of men - domestic and foreign."

"Say what you want about long dresses, but they cover a multitude of shins."

"When I'm good, I'm very good. But when I'm bad I'm better."

"Is that a pistol in your pocket, or you happy to see me?" (said to a real cop, then written into a film later)

"Too much of a good thing can be wonderful."

The infamous "Come up sometime and see me" clip. (Its always misquoted, even in the Youtube title LOL)

Hope you enjoyed these!!!

Photos: I collect these photos from the internet over time while browsing. They do not belong to me. Many probably come from Google images.

Yellow, White and Tan

In a recent InStyle, they suggest khaki and white with yellow, so I thought I'd give it a try before the last days of summer run out. :-) Hope your week is going well - almost Friday!!

White Tee - Target $10
Khaki Jacket - Loft $30
Shoes - Aerosoles

Playing with Polyvore

Hi all! Hope your week is going well.

I have a friend who iMed me the other day with some wardrobing questions. She has her own business providing IT service to non-profits, and her day might include meetings to recommend hardware purchases, updating 100 laptops with new software or crawling under desks and behind servers.

She has been living in polos, jeans and Sketchers Shape-ups, and is looking to upgrade her wardrobe, but wants to keep her jeans and comfy shoes. I put together some Polyvores to help her with some ideas to get started. Here they are!

Tuesday Final Sale and Clearance Outfit :-)

Hello all, hope your Tuesday was great. Today I have on one of the final sale blouses that I did not love. This one appeared to be very loose fitting in the catalog, but on me its a standard blouse fit - close to the body. I was going to just order a larger size, because I reallly like the top, but they ran out fast when it got marked down to $14.50 LOL. Ah well, so another blouse it is. :-) This is a 16P and I thought about sizing up to the 16WP.

Embroidered Tank in Deck Red - Talbot's $14.50, now $29
Cable Cardigan - Talbot's Clearance Center $15
Skirt - Talbot's Clearance Center (09 visit) $29

Mini Rant: I almost threw a book I was reading earlier. It was some style fashion book laying around. And I was skimming through all the body shapes, pear, apple, triangle, hourglass etc. Then I flip the page, and the next body type is for women under 5'5. It was called "The Half-Pint"..... What on earth?!?!? How did that make it past copy editing? Annoying. Terms like that get under my skin, "Tall Drink of Water" is another one that bothers me - not that I have ever been called that. LOL. Oh - and no "glass half full" comments either! :-P

Fun Read: Bringing Home the Birkin

Bringing Home the Birkin: My Life in Hot Pursuit of the World's Most Coveted Handbag by Michael Tonello

I know I normally don't do fashion book reviews, and if I talk (write) about books, its more of an aside at the end of my post. But, I read this book over the weekend, and thought it was super cute. Okay, one of my guilty pleasures (besides the bodice-rippers and the sci-fi oh... and the books about teen wizards) are those chicklit books. You know the ones, with the spunky, clueless heroine who has some set backs and comes up roses in the end by staying true to herself? (Confessions of a Shopaholic, Devil Wears Prada, The Second Assistant, I'm looking at you...) Well, this is sorta like that.

Michael Tonello, who now writes for HuffPo tells his story of how he accidently fell into the luxury resell market and the ups and downs it held for him. It particularly focuses on his search for the (at the time) elusive Hermes Birkin bag. Its a quirky, fun quick read and is a great option after finishing something heavier in nature. :-) This was in my library's non-fiction section next to the business books, which is how I happened upon it. It was a few books away from the books about Sam Walton LOL. I suspect this one was more fun to read.

OOTD - Sail Away, Sail Away....

Here are two items I got from the super Talbots's sale. I love this skirt, it fits really nice and I love the fabric too. This little embroidery on the skirt is mini anchors. Like this:

The blouse I bought March 09, and I bought two colors. I wish I had bought 5 whites. White blouses never last / stay crisp forever and I love this one. It fits really well. Hoping they bring it back.

Argyle Cardigan - Talbots $19.50 (sold out online)
Embriodered Skirt - Nantucket Navy Talbots $17 (now $33)
Ruched White Sateen Blouse - Talbots $26 (March 09)
Shoes - Nine West
